SCSO: Man Who Allegedly Threatened People With Gun Arrested

A Yreka man has been arrested on multiple charges. Late Tuesday afternoon, two Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a report of a man on Rocky Gulch Road, threatening people with a firearm. The man, later identified as 53-year-old David Eric Setzer, fled in a vehicle and was intercepted by another deputy and a California Department of Fish and Wildlife Warden. CHP and Yreka Police Department Officers also responded. Two men were detained, including the suspect, Setzer. According to the sheriff’s office, Setzer hid a handgun in a nearby residence after he made the threats. The major crimes unit was called in and a search warrant was obtained for the property. Numerous firearms, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a 9MM suppressor, and a stolen Dodge truck were found. It was later discovered that one or more firearms seized were stolen. In addition, suspected explosives or components were discovered on the property, which prompted a response from the bomb squad. The explosives were moved and destroyed. Setzer was originally arrested and charged with several serious offenses, including brandishing a firearm, criminal threats, and assault with a deadly weapon. Additional charges are pending, including possession of stolen property, possession of a firearm’s suppressor, and possession of explosive components. He was booked into the Siskiyou County Jail and is awaiting arraignment.
