Update: Man Who Threatened To Shoot At Helicopters Sentenced To Probation

We have a correction to a previous story in which we misidentified the defendant. A Dunsmuir man has been convicted of federal charges after threatening to shoot down helicopters fighting last year’s Delta Fire. 46-year-old Jason Tobey lives next to Mott Airport in Dunsmuir, which was being used by Forest Service helicopters last September. He twice told a Forest Service employee that he was going to shoot the aircraft out of the sky if they continued flying over his house. Some of the flight paths were actually altered in fear of Tobey carrying out his threats. In his trial Tobey claimed first amendment protections but a judge disagreed and he was found guilty Thursday and sentenced to 2 years probation and a $500 fine.
