Man Arrested After Stabbing In East Redding

Police have made an arrest in a stabbing that was committed in East Redding Wednesday night. Officers were called at 10:35PM to Alfreda Way, where they found 32-year-old Khampason Phaviseth suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to Mercy Hospital for emergency surgery and at last word he was in intensive care and is expected to survive. An investigation led police to 31-year-old Somethonit Phoumychack, who had apparently fled the scene but was found a couple of blocks away at a home on Reservoir Lane. He was taken into custody and a search warrant was obtained for the home. Investigators reported finding evidence including bloody clothing. When interviewed and presented with the evidence, Phoumychack allegedly admitted to stabbing Phaviseth, but said he had done it in self defense. No indication of that has come up in the investigation, and Phoumychack was booked into jail for attempted murder and other charges.
