Convicted Arsonist Arrested After Admitting To Starting Small Fire

A convicted arsonist has been arrested for a vegetation fire that was intentionally lit in South Redding Monday night. At around 7PM, Redding Fire Department was called to a field at Westside Road and Jewell Lane. They found the fire burning in dry grass and they were able to contain it to only about an eighth of an acre. The first arriving firefighters saw someone leaving the scene and called an investigator. With help from Redding Police, Anthony Martinez was found about 20 minutes later near the Clear Creek Market. He was identified by the fire crew as the man they had seen. Martinez is on parole for arson, and he reportedly admitted to being the one who started Monday night’s fire. He was booked into jail.
