Update: Impaired Wrong Way Driver Kills 2 On Interstate 5

The CHP says a 36-year-old Redding man was impaired when he drove the wrong-way on Interstate Five early Friday morning and killed two people north of Lakehead. The 2017 Dodge pickup was going south in the northbound lanes when it smashed head-on into a 1992 Ford pickup just south of McCardle Flat Road at around 2:30AM. Both occupants of the Ford, a 29-year-old Mount Shasta man and a 30-year-old Oregon woman, were killed. The driver of the Dodge and his 32-year-old female passenger were transported to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with moderate injuries. The driver was treated for his injuries and then booked into jail. The northbound side of the freeway remained closed until around 5:45AM Friday morning.
