The rain brings hope to Northstate firefighters trying to finalize containment of the many lightning fires from a week and a half ago.
The Red Bank Fire is fully contained. The fire west of Red Bluff destroyed two structures and burned 8,838 acres.
The South Fire was very active over the weekend, making a run to the west. A lot of work remains to achieve containment and there’s still a lot of burning on the interior. The South Fire is on federal land west of the Red Bank Fire 15 miles south of Platina. It’s now 5,190 acres with 30% containment.
The Henthorne Fire 15 miles northeast of Covelo remains at 244 acres and is 90% contained.
Most of the 20 fires in the Trinity River Management Unit of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest are extinguished. The 280 acre Rams Horn Fire between Highway 3 and Castle Crags is fully contained. The Middle Fire northeast of the Canyon Creek Trailhead has grown to 575 acres with no containment.
The Walker Fire in Plumas National Forest 11 miles east of Taylorsville has burned 54,518 acres with 68% containment.
