Update: Intoxicated Wrong Way Driver Faces Murder Charges

A man accused of driving drunk the wrong way on Interstate Five and killing two people north of Lakehead has been arraigned on two counts of murder. 36-year-old Sadiel Ramon Martinez has an interesting history in Miami, Florida, where he recently lived before moving to Shasta County. According to Huffington Post, early one morning in 2011 Martinez was involved in several hit and run crashes before ramming his car through the gates of a police officers memorial and driving in circles inside, crashing into the granite walls and causing damage before driving back out and plowing into another car. He then punched the arresting officer in the nose. The two people killed in the head-on crash on Friday have been identified by the Shasta County Coroner’s Office as 29-year-old Austin Lee Miller of Weed and 30-year-old Ashley Marie Wright of Grants Pass. The accident investigation led to a search of Martinez’s residence in the Town of Old Shasta, where drug agents reported finding illegal weapons and a large scale marijuana growing operation. Martinez remains in jail on 2 Million Dollar bail.
