Lightning Sparked Fires Continue Burning In Remote Siskiyou County

Two fires in Siskiyou County are still burning, two weeks after they were started by lightning strikes. The larger one, the Lime Fire, burning south of Cottonwood Peak near Lime Gulch covers 1,872 acres and is 99 percent contained. The smaller Kidder 2 Fire is ten miles southwest of Fort Jones in the Marble Mountain Wilderness. It’s been difficult to fight, as it’s burning in a very remote area in steep terrain. It’s only 39 percent contained, but recent rains have slowed activity. The Pacific Crest Trail is nearby and the forest service is advising hikers to avoid the area. All evacuations in the area of both fires have been lifted.
