Little Fire Activity Reported Over The Past Several Days

The rains seem to have had a very good effect on tamping down the Northern California lightning fires. The Forest Service is preparing for prescribed fire season to reduce a huge build up of hazardous fuels.

The South Fire has had minimal activity after making a run to the west over the weekend. The objective is still to confine the fire to the Yolla Bolly Wilderness. The South Fire is now 5,203 acres with 53% containment. t’s burning to the west of the 8,838 acre Red Bank Fire 15 miles south of Platina.

The Middle Fire in the East Fork of Canyon Creek in the Trinity River Management Unit of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest has been smoldering but did not increase in size or flare up Wednesday. It’s now 1,328 acres and 15% contained. Crews will continue to strengthen firelines. Two firefighters were injured in the initial attack when a boulder rolled down a hill and struck them.

Crews are closing in on the big fire in Plumas National Forest 11 miles east of Taylorsville. The Walker Fire has burned 54,612 acres, now with 97% containment.
