Child Abuse Prevention Council Announces Name Change

The Shasta County Child Abuse Coordinating Council is changing its name to the Children’s Hope Alliance. Executive Director Michael Burke says volunteers have avoided using the previous name because, besides being a mouthful, it had a bad connotation and turned people off. Clients apparently didn’t want to be referred to the organization because it implied that they were child abusers. The Children’s Hope Alliance is still the same group established in 1987, and will continue its programs that include child abuse prevention, parenting education, community engagement, management of the Anderson Teen Center and the reduction of adverse childhood experiences. They’re now adding two new programs. “Road to Resilience” is using state grant money to hire 8 new case workers for pregnant women with substance abuse issues. The other program is called “Launch”, which places parent partners into kindergarten classrooms. More about the organization’s programs can be found at childrenshopealliance.org.
