Firefighters Extinguish Railroad Tie Fire In Downtown Redding

Plenty of people saw a pile of railroad ties on fire in Downtown Redding Monday night. Fire Marshall Craig Wittner is hoping someone saw how it started. Multiple 9-1-1 callers reported the fire a little before 7 O’clock on Railroad Avenue at Sacramento Street right across from Bruno’s Automotive. Redding Firefighters arrived to find a large stack of creosote-soaked railroad ties ablaze and putting off noxious black smoke. It took a long time and lots of water to extinguish the fire because no heavy equipment was available to spread out the pile. The value of the damage is estimated at around $3,000. Anyone who saw anything suspicious should call 225-4141.
