Supervisors Approve Sales Tax Measure For March Ballot

Shasta County voters will decide whether to approve a one cent sales tax aimed at reducing crime. The Shasta County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to put the measure on the March 3rd ballot. This is a specific tax, which requires a 2/3rds majority to pass. If passed, the increased income would be designated for decreasing crime. Among other programs, it would go toward increasing the number of jailbeds, new hires for RPD,APD, the sheriff’s department, DA’s Office and others. It would also fund increased mental health resources. The Cities of Redding, Anderson and Shasta Lake have all voted to support the measure.
