New Police Chief To Be Sworn In On Wednesday

An official ceremony will be held to recognize Redding’s new police chief. Bill Schueller was appointed to replace the retiring Roger Moore. Schueller’s appointed as chief was announced in August by City Manager Barry Tippin and then approved by the city council. The public is invited to the swearing-in ceremony, which will take place Wednesday at 10:30AM in the city council chambers. Schueller started with the RPD in 1994 as a patrol officer. He worked five years as a traffic officer and five years as an investigator. He most recently oversaw the field operations division, which includes patrol, school resource, K9s, SWAT, traffic, community cleanup and MPU. Schueller recently managed a five year project for the purchase an implementation of a new countywide dispatch and records system. He’s a native of Albany, Oregon and moved to Northern California in 1993 to attend the Butte Law Enforcement Academy. He was selected as chief from a field of 15 qualified candidates chosen in a nationwide search. The RPD has 106 sworn officers and 59 non-sworn personnel with an annual budget of around $30 Million.
