The Latest: PG&E Will Begin Some Power Shutoffs At Midnight Tuesday

PG&E customers are preparing for a “public safety power shutoff” starting as early as Tuesday night at Midnight in some areas. PG&E will be setting up a resource center at Shasta College from 8AM to 6PM beginning Wednesday for the duration of the event. Customers will be provided with information, water, charging stations and air conditioning. The National Weather Service has posted a red flag warning starting Wednesday morning with gusts from the north up to 45 miles an hour. The precautionary shutdown of electricity service has been expanded to include as many as 800,000 customers in parts of 34 counties. Trinity County has been added to the list that also includes almost 29,000 Shasta County customers and 24,000 in Tehama County. The most dangerous winds will likely be settled down by midday Thursday but after the weather conditions improve, power cannot be restored until crews inspect equipment for potential damage. Many Shasta County schools, including Anderson High School District, have already announced closures for Wednesday. Students should check with their schools if they’re located in the PG&E service area.
