Man Who Violently Attacked Wife And Her Sister Sentenced To 11 Years

A Redding man arrested just two weeks ago in a domestic violence and kidnapping incident is already on his way to prison. The September 26th fight started at a house on Westwood Avenue in South Redding. The wife of 44-year-old Carl Dudley Hulsey the Third had been staying at One Safe Place and returned home to get some of her things, accompanied by her sister. As she walked through the front door, Hulsey started throwing things at her face and slammed the door on her foot several times, pinning her in the threshold. Hulsey began pummeling her in the face, chest and head as she screamed for help from her sister. When the sister came running to her aid, Hulsey started beating her too and hit her in the head with a brick. He then strangled her by pushing his knee into her neck, cutting off her air and making her black out. She regained consciousness in time to see Hulsey getting into her car and starting to drive away. She ran over to try and stop him, jumping into the passenger side. He left with her as an unwilling passenger, making threats that they would die together. He pulled the car into the Win-River Mini Mart on South Bonnyview and went inside, so the sister sent a text message to a neighbor who had witnessed the fight. When Hulsey came out of the store, he was met by the neighbor, who tried to hold him at gunpoint until police arrived. Hulsey fled into a nearby field and was eventually captured by Otto the RPD K9 with help from a CHP helicopter. On Thursday Hulsey entered guilty pleas to corporal injury to a spouse and several other assault charges, making two of them count as violent strike convictions. He was immediately sentenced to 11 years in state prison.
