Two arrests were made after Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Deputies were led on a long distance high speed chase. At 12:44PM Wednesday afternoon a deputy tried to make a routine traffic stop on Highway 96 near Seattle Creek. The driver sped away, driving recklessly through a construction zone past a flagger and running a red light at Beaver Creek. The chase continued for 60 miles at 70 to 80 miles an hour on treacherous curves, with the driver passing other cars and swerving over the double yellow line. Eventually, after crossing the Klamath River Bridge, a CHP spike strip flattened one of the tires. The man and woman in the car both ran down the bank toward the Klamath River. 29-year-old John Jacob Lightle of Montague was found hiding in the bushes. 33-year-old Jennifer Lynette Peters of Yreka jumped in the river but was caught with the help of a K9. She had apparently been the driver. A lot of drug paraphernalia, marijuana, stolen property and burglary tools were reportedly found in the car. Lightle and Peters both had felony warrants as well. They were booked into jail.
