The Latest: PG&E To Cut Power To Some Shasta County Residents Saturday Evening

Another PG&E intentional blackout is likely to begin Satuday and it’ll be the biggest one yet. All customers affected by the shutoff that started Wednesday should be re-energized by Friday evening, and all of them have with the exception of parts of Sonoma and Nevada Counties. There’s just a brief window of opportunity to use electricity before the next shutoff, expected to start between 6PM and 10PM Saturday. PG&E says the shutoff will continue through midday on Monday. This time it’ll reach north into a small part of Siskiyou County. A total of 850,000 customers are on the notification list, including more than 28,000 in Shasta County,19,000 in Tehama, a thousand in Trinity and 19,000 in Butte. North winds with gusts of up to 55 miles an hour are forecast for Saturday evening in Shasta County, and as high as 70 miles an hour in some areas. When the winds die down, PG&E crews will need to check for damage to the electrical grid before power can be restored. That grid encompasses more than 8,000 miles of distribution lines and 650 miles of high voltage transmission lines. More information is at pgealerts.com.
