Kincade Fire Grows To Over 54,000 Thousand Acres

PETALUMA, Calif. (AP) – Residents, animals, jail inmates and more than 100 hospital patients are among the nearly 200,000 people ordered from their Sonoma County homes ahead of the raging Kincade Fire. The fire that started last Wednesday has grown to more than 54,000 acres, with just 5% containment. At least 94 residential and commercial structures have been destroyed. Two firefighters were injured Sunday battling the fire. A Cal Fire spokesman said one firefighter sustained serious burn injuries and was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center. The other firefighter who was burned had minor injuries. Tens of thousands of people were ordered to flee in the middle of the night, sending a surge of people to the roads, clogging highways and filling shelters. Many were victims of the deadly wildfires in October 2017 that killed 44 people and destroyed thousands of homes. Officials say they are lucky that this time they had more warning about the devastating winds. The Kincade Fire is believed to have started from a P-G-&-E transmission line.
