Update: Coroner ID’s Men Killed In High Speed Crash On Highway 44

The Shasta County Coroners Office has identified the two men killed in a high speed crash off Highway 44 Monday afternoon. It was around 5 O’clock and witnesses say the gray 2001 Corvette was traveling westbound at well over 100 miles an hour before leaving the pavement between Shasta View and Victor. It’s not clear why the driver lost control, but the car left the road where Churn Creek runs under the highway, completely tearing out and peeling back about 40 feet of guardrail before overturning multiple times and coming to rest in the bed of Churn Creek. The driver, 27-year-old Travis Brundage of Redding, and the passenger, 30-year-old Ryan Dearman of Cottonwood, were both unrestrained and ejected. Witnesses are urged to call the CHP at 225-0500.
