Cal-Fire: More Fires In 2019, But Less Acreage Burns

While the fire season isn’t over yet, this year has been a relatively mild one, compared to 2018. The number of incidents was dramatically higher this year, but the fires were much smaller. There were almost 6,200 wildfires this year, compared to 310 last year. According to Cal-Fire, about 1.6 Million acres burned last year, damaging or destroying some 23,000 structures and killing 93 people. So far this year, less than 200,000 acres have burned, 732 structures were damaged or destroyed and 3 people lost their lives.
