A man who was apparently trying to commit a theft was caught in the act. Wednesday morning around 11:15AM, Redding Police responded to a call of a possible robbery in progress. While en route, they were advised that several people had chased after and caught the suspect, 21-year-old Christian Ackley of Redding. Ackley was seen inside the victim’s vehicle and, when confronted, ran off with the victim’s purse. The woman chased after Ackley, then some bystanders jumped in and helped catch him and get the purse back. Ackley was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail for burglary and violation of probation.
