Skimming Devices Located At 2 Redding Gas Stations

Customers at 2 Redding gas stations are being warned that their credit or debit card information may have been compromised. Shasta County Weights and Measures staff performing checks on pumps found skimming devices on some gas pumps at the Chevron at 4746 Churn Creek Road and the Valero at 722 East Cypress Avenue. They were reported to the Redding Police Department. The businesses weren’t aware of the devices and it’s not known when they were installed. “Skimming” is a term used to describe the method used to obtain credit card information via a computer device that’s installed surreptitiously. The device would only be able to capture information at the actual pump where it was installed. Anyone who believes that their credit card has been compromised should contact their financial institution.
