Wet winter weather begins Tuesday, and that means the delayed burn pile season for the City of Redding may begin on any day that’s approved as a burn day by Shasta County Air Quality Management. A lot of leaves and weeds have accumulated in backyards, and many people are still dealing with downed material from the big snowstorm earlier this year. Residents are encouraged to stuff their greenwaste cans or haul it somewhere like the Redding Transfer Station. Wherever burning is done there are rules, including a 10 foot clearance scraped down to the dirt and a responsible adult present with a water source and a shovel. To check if it’s a burn day in Shasta County the number is 224-8777. Because of the delay, and the abundance of material, the burn season for Redding will run all the way until the end of the year. Permits are required to be in hand while burning, but there’s no charge and they can easily be downloaded from reddingfire.org.
