Fish & Game Warden Captures Man Wanted After Shooting In Montgomery Creek

A Montgomery Creek man wanted by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office for a shooting incident is in custody. Deputies were called last Wednesday evening to the Montgomery Creek Store. Nobody was there when deputies arrived, but they tracked down the victim, 28-year-old Matreyo Mastrangelo-Mitchell. Surveillance from the store showed Mitchell sitting in his car in the parking lot when another car pulled up. A man believed to be 24-year-old Shane Montgomery got out with a long gun in his hand. As Mitchell quickly drove away, the gunman fired a single shot. Mitchell was not struck. Shane Montgomery was believed to be armed and dangerous so the sheriff’s office made it a high priority case and continued to search around the Intermountain area. At 2:30PM Tuesday afternoon a Fish and Wildlife Warden near Black Ranch Road and the Old McCloud Railroad in Burney stopped a Jeep Liberty and found Shane Montgomery riding as a passenger. He was detained and turned over to deputies. Montgomery reportedly admitted to the shooting. He had other felony warrants as well and he was booked into jail.
