Corning Police Refute Social Media Post That Stated Boys Nose Was Broken With A Mallet

Corning Police have released an account of a rumble between two groups of teens that led one parent to post a widely seen bashing of law enforcement. The social media post went viral according to the CPD, who say they got calls from reporters all over the country. The parent said someone broke their 13-year-old son’s nose with a mallet because he’s white and a Donald Trump supporter. The post also said “Racism is real and not one sided. Local police don’t seem to care much.” Police had a much different story. A fight was reported at the Corning Skate Park on December 20th at 5:26PM and officers arrived 3 minutes later. A parent and three juveniles were interviewed, saying the kids were jumped by another group in a racially and politically motivated attack. Three officers and a sergeant spent 15 hours investigating and interviewed everyone involved on both sides. They say it started with an informal boxing match at the park, followed by pushing and shoving and racial slurs, and the 13-year-old brandished a folding knife, but didn’t unfold the blade. The two groups agreed to meet later to fight, which is when the boy’s nose was broken by an 18-year-old, but police say it was a punch and no mallet or any other weapon was involved. Although racial slurs were used, police don’t believe race was a motivating factor. They’ve asked the D.A.’s Office to file charges against all the people involved.
