Two Arrested After Multi-State Water Machine Thefts

A pair of accused thieves arrested in Redding for breaking into water vending machines may be responsible for identical crimes at 75 different places in California, Oregon and Washington. Thursday night Redding Police were contacted by Primo Water Corporation, who warned that there are machines in Redding just like the 75 that had been broken into elsewhere. The thefts and cost of repairs ran into the tens of thousands of Dollars. Primo water gave the RPD descriptions of the suspected man and woman and their red Toyota 4Runner, and officers checked out the vending machines in Redding. By a stroke of good timing, Officer Shannah Johnson found a couple from Renton, Washington matching the description, as well as evidence that they had broken into at least one machine in Redding. Tools and other evidence were found in their 4Runner. 47-year-old Denise McWherter and 41-year-old Trevor Berry were both booked for conspiracy and felony vandalism.
