Alleged Car Thief Ditches Vehicle After Crashing Near Happy Valley

When the victim of a vehicle theft found her stolen truck, she found the thief was not ready to give it up. Friday evening a Chevy Silverado belonging to Edgar Reyes was stolen from the Sierra Pacific Mill in Anderson. On Saturday Reyes’ wife, Sara Martinez, and her friend were driving around looking for the truck when they found it parked at Win-River Casino. Martinez was inspecting the pickup when a man who had the key approached and ordered her to move out of his way. Martinez told her friend to call 9-1-1 while she tried blocking the door. The man punched her, pushed her out of the way, got in the driver’s seat and drove away. A Redding Police Officer happened to be in the parking lot and Martinez flagged him down to tell him she had been carjacked. Meanwhile the pickup was speeding away southbound on Highway 273. Officers later found it had been abandoned after crashing into the stopsign at Happy Valley Road and Majestic View Drive. A search was done with a K9 but the thief was not found. He’s described as a white man in his 40’s with a shaved head, a goatee, and an unknown tattoo on his face.
