Council To Review Retirement Benefits, Ethics Statements

The Redding City Council will consider adopting new mission, vision and ethics statements during Tuesday nights meeting. The city already has these statements, which pledge to provide a high quality of life, use careful planning, support job growth, provide excellent public services and follow a set of organizational values. City Manager Barry Tippin says the documents are used to guide the city in determining priorities, developing policies and guiding how it conducts business. He references an award winning set of documents developed by the City of Santa Clara increase public trust in government. One result is workshops on ethical campaigning held before and after each election. Tippin says staff and consultant expenses necessary for the drafting of new statements would be well over $50,000. Also at tonight’s meeting, the council will review audits, finances, employee retirement benefits, and the contract with Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association to run the Redding Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
