Dorris Veterinarian Found Dead After Suffering From Gunshot

The identity has been released of a man killed by a gunshot in Northern Siskiyou County. At 12:20PM Friday afternoon Siskiyou County Deputies accompanied medical personnel to a worksite off East Butte Valley Road in the Dorris Area. A relative had found 31-year-old Dakota Woodard suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and, despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Woodard was a veterinarian and a Dorris resident. A rifle was found near Dr. Woodard with one expended round. The sheriff’s office says there’s no evidence that anyone else was involved or that the shot was fired intentionally. An autopsy will be done this week.
