Deputy Safely Negotiates With Standoff Suspect In Fall River

An armed standoff in Fall River Mills has ended peacefully. Just after Midnight Tuesday morning, SHASCOM received a call from a suicide hotline that a man armed with a shotgun was threatening to kill himself. The caller, who seemed to be heavily intoxicated, was transferred to SHASCOM. A dispatcher discovered there was a juvenile inside the residence. The 32-year-old man spotted deputies arriving and threatened to shoot them. Deputies reported hearing a shotgun being cycled. A deputy took over negotiations and, after an hour, was able to get the man to come out unarmed, and surrender. A young juvenile, who was unharmed, was located in a bedroom and taken into protective custody until being placed with a family member. A loaded, chambered 20-gauge shotgun was found leaning against the wall by the front door. The man was taken into custody and booked into Shasta County Jail, charged with a felony count of resisting a peace officer and felony child endangerment, as well as an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.
