The annual count of eagles at Trinity Lake has surpassed the record-tying number reported at Shasta Lake last week. This week, the Shasta-Trinity unit of the Forest Service conducted the count over a
2-day period and found a record number of 123 eagles, 68 adults and 55 juveniles. 87 were counted at Shasta last week, which is normally considered to have the largest number of nesting eagles in the state. January through July is the bald eagle nesting season. Eagle observers are reminded that state and federal laws protect bald eagles and their nest sites. Disturbance around the nest could cause the birds to abandon the nest.
