Teen Arrested After Wild Car Chase In Siskiyou County

A teenager led Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Deputies on a chase of varying speeds, followed by a standoff. At around 7:30AM Sunday morning, a sheriff’s sergeant saw a Dodge Durango on County Road A-12 near Grenada being driven very slowly and swerving between the shoulder and the pavement. It also had no license plates. The sergeant tried to pull the SUV over but it accelerated for several miles, then stopped in the Town of Montague before speeding away again. The driver was going too fast, drove on the wrong side of the road, drove on a sidewalk, and very nearly collided with parked cars. He eventually lost control and collided with a fence on North 11th Street. A young passenger got out, but the driver refused to surrender and claimed to have a gun. He continued to be belligerent and threatening for about an hour, and then deputies sent Peewee the K9 after the boy to bring an end the incident. The 17-year-old was not armed after all. He had taken the Durango from his parents without permission and did not have a driver’s license. He was booked into juvenile hall for felony evading, felony resisting arrest and DUI.
