Several Cited For Selling Tobacco To Minors

A tobacco decoy sting operation was done on Tuesday around Shasta County to catch retailers selling tobacco to minors. The sheriff’s department did the sting along with health and human services. A decoy under the age of 21 went into 15 different stores trying to buy tobacco without ID. Ten of the stores refused to sell, but clerks at five of them were cited. They were the Happy Stop on Cloverdale Road, the Country Market on Happy Valley Road, the Gas Point Market, the Cottonwood Chevron and the Dollar General in Palo Cedro. The legal age to buy tobacco products is 21, except for active duty military personnel, for whom it’s 18.
