85-Year-Old Woman Dies After Crash In West Redding

An elderly woman died as a result of a broadside collision in West Redding Tuesday afternoon. At 2:15PM, the 85-year-old driver of a Buick pulled out of a private driveway on the north side of Eureka Way near Whiskeytown Court. She was trying to make a left turn across traffic to go east but she drove directly into the path of a westbound 2017 Volkswagon driven by 26-year-old Chelsea Kefalas. She could not avoid the collision and her Volkswagon crashed into the driver’s side of the Buick. Kefalas had complaints of pain but she was able to walk away. The 85-year-old woman was taken to Mercy Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Airbags deployed in both cars, both drivers were wearing seatbelts and neither is suspected of being under the influence of anything.
