Update: Robber Sprays Employee With Mace While Robbing Recycling Center

A South Redding recycler was robbed Wednesday morning. The Bigfoot Recycling Center in the Westwood Village Shopping Center opens for business at 10AM, so the cash box was full when a man approached the attendant at 10:03AM and demanded money. The employee, Eugene Wright, thought the robber was joking at first, but quickly found out it was no joke when the man sprayed him in the face with mace, grabbed the cash box and ran away. The robber was last seen heading north on Westside Road. Redding Police responded quickly, with help from a CHP helicopter. The RPD tried to pick up a track with a K9, but the robber was not found. Police visited nearby businesses looking for surveillance footage and found that the suspect had gone into Carl’s Jr, changed his clothing, and stuffed his old clothes into a garbage can before proceeding to the north. An image from the surveillance is on the KQMS Facebook Page.
