Update: Police Name Man Fatally Shot By Officers In Red Bluff

The man shot to death by Red Bluff Police early Wednesday morning was wanted by the FBI. Officers were called at 10:30PM Tuesday night to the Meadow Vista Apartments on Vista Way on reports of an altercation. When they arrived, they say they immediately came under fire by a man with a handgun. An officer returned fire and struck 38-year-old Alex Francisco Vazquez. He fell to the ground but continued to hang onto the gun despite orders to drop it. Officers tried to negotiate for about an hour and a half as Vasquez lay bleeding. Then four officers used a ballistic shield to approach him. He apparently tried to shoot the officers again and two officers shot back, inflicting fatal wounds. Red Bluff Police Chief Kyle Sanders says the investigation continues as video recordings are being reviewed, including body cam footage. Vazquez was listed by the FBI as armed and dangerous and had a federal warrant for possession of drugs with intent to distribute.
