FEMA Agrees To Cover $300 Million For Oroville Dam Repairs

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – In an unusual reversal, federal regulators have agreed to cover about $300 million in repair costs at California’s Oroville Dam, where a spillway collapse three years ago prompted the evacuation of nearly 190,000 people. The Sacramento Bee says the Federal Emergency Management Agency this week decided to cover repairs it had refused to cover last year. The agency had said those repairs involved damage that existed before the dam spillway collapsed in 2017. Flooding fears prompted evacuations downstream for several days. All told, California now expects to be reimbursed about $750 million of the $1.1 billion in repair costs.
