Man Reportedly Torches Vehicle, Kills Small Dog In Happy Valley

A Happy Valley man has been arrested for allegedly killing a Chihuahua and lighting a car on fire. Mary Boyer called 9-1-1 just before 10:30AM Thursday morning concerning her son, 33-year-old Steven Lamont Hawkins. The dog belonged to Hawkins stepfather, with whom Hawkins does not get along. The two had been arguing when the stepfather left, leaving his dog behind. Hawkins reportedly grabbed the dog and went outside. The Chihuahua was later found in a smoldering burn barrel. When deputies arrived Hawkins was standing in the driveway next to a burning car. The flames were also spreading to a cab-over-camper parked next to it. Deputies say Hawkins refused to put his hands up and took two knives from his pockets. He eventually dropped the knives and gave up. He was booked into jail for 3 counts of felony arson, felony animal cruelty and felony malicious mutilation of an animal.
