A teenager from Redding is in critical condition after crashing a stolen pickup in Siskiyou County, according to the CHP. Early Thursday morning, 9-1-1 callers reported a reckless driver in a red GMC pickup in the Dorris area, driving at high speed and darting in and out of traffic, nearly causing several collisions. About 45 minutes later the driver was on Highway 97 south of Tennant Road when he veered off the road and up a small embankment, becoming airborne. When the truck landed it overturned and ejected the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt. Cal-Trans and CHP arrived to find 19-year-old lLif Brooks on the ground unconscious. He was kept alive with CPR until an ambulance arrived, and he was eventually transported to Mercy Hospital in Redding. He’s apparently in stable but critical condition. The CHP says Brooks had stolen the pickup from Klamath Falls earlier in the morning.
