State Of Emergency Declared, Only 1 Case Of COVID-19 In Shasta County

Shasta County and the City of Redding have both declared a local public health state of emergency. The Redding City Council made the unanimous decision during a special meeting Tuesday night. Also, representatives from public health, Anderson, Redding, Shasta Lake and the county met last night to announce a unified response effort. The main purpose of the declaration is to qualify for funding reimbursement from the state and federal governments.

There has been only one confirmed case of COVID-19 in Shasta County, and that patient is out of quarantine and has recovered. Currently there are no known cases in Shasta County or neighboring counties.Sheriff Eric Magrini acknowledged Tuesday night that the only thing resembling a crisis locally is the sometimes hysterical reaction by the public in hoarding certain goods. Many stores are limiting hours and purchases as a result.
