District Attorney Stephanie Bridgett says that a number of people have already fallen for a scam directed at church members. She says someone hacked the information of a clergyman for The Stirring and sent out solicitations to the congregation with a plea for donations, saying that a family belonging to that church had contracted COVID-19. She said other churches have also fallen victim to the same scam. She could say how much money had been fraudulently obtained, but she said it’s unlikely it will be recovered.
