Update: Mexican Citizen Killed In Head-On Crash

A head-on collision killed a man at the southern edge of Corning Sunday night. According to the Corning Journal, the dead man was a 45-year-old Mexican citizen who had been living in Corning for some time. A little after 10:30PM he was driving a Nissan Altima eastbound on South Avenue about 2.5 miles east of Interstate 5. Meanwhile, 65-year-old Richard Murphy of Chico was coming the other way in a Mack truck hauling a tanker trailer full of diesel fuel. Murphy told the CHP that the Nissan swerved across his lane, hit the gravel shoulder, then swerved back directly in front of his truck. He had minor injuries, while the Nissan driver was declared dead at the scene. The road was closed for about three hours while the diesel was transferred into another truck so that the Mack could be lifted off the top of the Nissan.
