7th Confirmed Case Of COVID-19 In Shasta County

Shasta County has a seventh, and possibly eighth, COVID-19 patient. An employee of the Redding Veterans Home on Knighton Road is the new confirmed case. The woman in her 50’s is a close contact of the man in his 80’s who had a positive test Sunday. She’s in isolation at her home. CALVET, which runs the veterans home, says nobody there is showing any symptoms. They added that another employee, who works at the home intermittently, called earlier this week and told a supervisor that they tested positive for COVID-19, but that case has not been confirmed by public health. The home has been tightly restricting visitors since March 15th.

Shasta County Public Health says the man in his 80’s is the first believed to have contracted the virus through community transmission. The man had not traveled recently and he didn’t have contact with a person known to have COVID-19. He remains isolated at a Redding Hospital. The only local COVID-19 fatality is a woman in her 70’s who caught it at a Sacramento hospital and died last week in Redding. The man in his 50s has recovered.

A female Shasta College student in her 20’s is believed to have contracted the virus while traveling out of state. She’s in isolation at home and public health is trying to track down her contacts. People may have been exposed to her at the Shasta College Health Sciences Building on March 12th. A man in his 60’s from Shasta County is in a Sacramento hospital, where he contracted the virus.

Siskiyou County has three confirmed Coronavirus patients and Butte County has eight. Humboldt county has 21. Glenn County has two. There are none reported in Tehama, Trinity, Lassen or Modoc Counties.
Trinity County has issued an order asking non-residents to stay away.
