California Reports Backlog Of 60,000 COVID-19 Tests

370 people in Shasta County have tested negative to COVID-19. 150 of those tests were done in the public health lab and the other 220 in private labs. 4 people are isolated with the virus and 25 people have been ordered into quarantine by the health officer due to possible exposure. There remains a severe shortage of testing materials, so testing is still prioritized for people with the most severe symptoms, those who have knowingly been exposed, and those most at risk. California is ramping up testing for Coronavirus even as a backlog of nearly 60,000 pending tests grows. Lags in getting results can be as long as 12 days and delays treatment and isolation of the sick and leaves an incomplete picture of how widespread the outbreak is in the state. The state has reported that results of nearly two-thirds of the 90,000 tests administered are still pending. Governor Gavin Newsom said Thursday that the backlog is part of a broader national problem.
