Care Home Residents Arrested For Arson

A man in a residential care facility for disabled adults in South Redding has been arrested after setting fire to his bedroom, according to Redding Fire Department. At 6 O’clock Thursday night firefighters were sent to the facility located among single family houses on Kimberly Drive in Westwood Manor. When they got there the fire had already been extinguished by a staff member and all seven of the occupants had been evacuated. Because of the quick action, fire damage was minimal, estimated at $1,500 for the structure and $500 worth of contents. After an investigation, 40-year-old Moses Richard Cantu was arrested for arson to an inhabited dwelling. Fire Marshal Craig Wittner says Cantu started the fire intentionally because he didn’t want to live there anymore.
