Cow Causes Cross-Freeway Collision

A Cottonwood man was badly hurt when his car was struck by a big rig on northbound Interstate 5 between Corning and Red Bluff. At 8:35 Sunday night a southbound tractor-trailer driven by a Los Angeles man hit a black cow near Flores Avenue. That send the big rig veering across the median and into the northbound lanes, where it struck a 2000 Oldsmobile driven by 45-year-old Trenton Morrisseau of Cottonwood. The impact knocked the Olds onto its right side as it came to rest on the shoulder. The big rig was disabled in the northbound slow lane, forcing an all night lane closure until the truck could be recovered. The trucker had minor injuries. Morrisseau suffered major injuries and was taken by ambulance to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Red Bluff. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and drug or alcohol are not suspected.
