Redding Fire Department responded to a small structure fire at a home on Alta Mesa Drive. The resident reported a fire in the garage and both occupants evacuated after being awakened by smoke alarms. The first arriving firefighters at around 5:20AM Friday morning reported light smoke and extinguished the fire quickly. The cause was determined to be improperly discarded smoking materials. Damage is estimated at $1,000.
