Closed Doors Shield Child Abuse From Outside World

Although child abuse arrests have dropped during the stay-at-home order, it’s clear to all the experts that the actual incidence of child abuse has undoubtedly risen. In normal times, children venture out to school. to friends’ homes and other places where bruising and other signs of abuse can be seen by other people and reported. In recent weeks, there has been no such contact. Also, stress levels are up and patience is stretched thin. That, combined with families being forced into close quarters, sets up a terrible perfect storm for child abuse. Anyone who suspects abuse may be taking place can call the D.A.’s Crime Victims Assistance Center at 225-5220 or Pathways To Hope For Children (formerly the Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council) at 225-5144.
