Man Accused Of Stabbing His Mother To Death

An east Redding woman was murdered on Friday, apparently by her son. At 4:26 Friday afternoon, the husband of 68-year-old Joan McKenzie called 911 after finding her in a pool of blood at their home on Edgewood Drive. She had been stabbed multiple times. While Redding Police officers were en route, they learned that the suspect was Joan’s son, 32-year-old Nicholas McKenzie, and they were given a description. Nicholas had reportedly fled on foot and he was intercepted by officers on Old Alturas Road near Victor Avenue. Joan was rushed to a hospital, but later died from her injuries. Investigators found evidence and witnesses linking Nicholas to the murder. He’s in jail on $1 million bail.
