13 Inmates Released From Shasta County Jail After Executive Order

The Shasta County Jail is being forced to release some inmates. The Governor has ordered the release of any inmate who qualifies for a “zero bail” classification. The Sheriff’s Office has reviewed 47 inmate case files and determined that 13 people must be released immediately. Another 26 were deemed ineligible by the Sheriff’s Office and the other 8 are still under review by the District Attorney’s Office. Bookings into the jail are way down in the past few weeks. Last week Sheriff Eric Magrini said the jail was only at 77% capacity. The extra space is allowing them to set aside an entire pod for any suspected Coronavirus-exposed inmates. There are none as of yet, as all inmates are being screened during booking.
